Snowing in the South!

It snowed today. The children had a blast playing in it. I loved watching it fall from the warmth of my kitchen. Snow falling has an almost remniscent feel to it; like I should remember something from it. Maybe it's because it falls silently and rests gracefully. It was pretty to watch. I went outside to play in it and remembered that it is cold (COLD) and wet. Then I went back inside to watch it fall from the warmth of my couch.

Winter reminds me of Robert Frost. He wrote poems from all seasons (as we are studying him right now), but I like him best in the winter. This poem is called "A Patch of Old Snow":

"There's a patch of old snow in a corner

That I should have guessed

Was a blow-away paper the rain had brought to rest.

It is speckled with grime as if

Small print overspread it,

The news of a day I've forgotten-If I ever read it."

I'm enjoying my lazy Saturday at home. I hope you enjoy yours.

Kimmy Sue! I LOVE your new look! No more depressing thoughts when the blog has the baby blues!

It looks like you have more snow than we do! We just got a dusting:( Maybe more will come this evening yet.

Y'all have fun in the snow.

Robert Frost - one of my favorite children's books was based on the poem "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" - loved the art...

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know,
His house is in the village though.
He will not see me stopping here,
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer,
To stop without a farmhouse near,
Between the woods and frozen lake,
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake,
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep,
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

-- Robert Frost

Thank you for the pictures -
We miss you, Quinn and the boys so much...

love you - mom

No fair, our kids were very disappointed that we didn't get any snow, despite the 100% forecast for it this morning. Oh pooh!

My favorite snow poem:

Snowball

I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed.

Your blog looks great! We're just freezing cold here, nothing to show for it. Not even the ice we usually get.
